Ok, here’s a pop quiz.  

Think of a nation that is simply passionate just about almost everything. Think of arts, inventions, poetry, architecture. Their ingenuity is just divine.

Their greatest contributions are lasagna, and for giving us the ultimate WMDs – the Ferrari and Lamborghini. Enough said, now sum of all that brilliance into one ultimate form – music. 

Thus, we have Tiziano Ferro. 
( ok, that’s a huge claim .. but still … )

I first came about this magnificent bloke in 2003. His album 111 Centoundici is just exquisite. Got haunted by it ever since ! The songs are well-written, very light and energetic in melody but intense in lyrics. It was perfect.

But it was then.

Nessuno è solo was released in 2006 but i just got ’aware’ of it a few days back. Excited at first but after listening to it a couple of times, it’s obviously rubbish.

The songs are crappy, the tune was a mess. Unlike the 111, you can no longer delve into the lyrics as it just does not make any sense. And to add to my ordeal, it’s insanely fast. It’s fine with a car, but not for a song.

I was expecting something that is cheerful, i-am-stupidly-happy kind of songs. Just look at the cover; there he was having a jolly good time. ’Nessuno è solo’ reads ‘Nobody is lonely’ yet the songs are infested with depressive lyrics. One of those songs, ‘Salutandotiaffogo’ suggestively means ’I drown to despair as i wish goodbye’. fu**… Why on earth do you print that picture on the cover ? Making us look more of a fool for listening to his album.

I admire his eagerness to venture into something new as he is one hell of a talent. Perhaps he tried too much to please - even himself.
