The Song of My Home
‘Negaraku’.
Such a simple yet massively meaningful song for our home, Malaysia, don’t you think ?
And for you whom think of shame just because the Anthem emulated from the ‘Memula Moon’, you should not fucking have to. Did you know that ‘The Star-spangled Banner’, the US National Anthem was emulated from a british drinking song ? Or even the ‘God save the Queen’ was said to rhymed with an early plainsong ? Go ahead. Google yourself.
People at those times seek common ground to bond them together and more of so when it comes to a Nation state. Just imagine how plain difficult it is to talk and understand in different languages moreover to unite a group of people from different walks of life. To create that instant, common attribute requires what is widely accessible – or available – to the masses – in this case, songs. Make sense ?
The song have united us in the past and does wonders to our Nation. Perhaps the greatest moment was at the KL Commonwealth Games in 1998. That’s when we stood proud wholeheartedly echoing every words of the Anthem.
Let the Anthem unite us now - and for the coming years, shall we ?
