The Land of the Dragon People
Well, not China. Vietnam. The Land of the Dragon People. Got it ?
Asians do have bizarre commonalities when it comes to folklore, myths and legends. Though the mystical ‘Dragon’ is a natural reference to the Chinese, the people of Vietnam too is said to be descendants of the beast. And even here in Malaysia, according to the legends, Lake Chini still inhabited by the Dragons !
Cool ! And they even said a ruined Khmer city lies underneath. *slap in the forehead*
Vietnam is just as fascinating as its legend - and I can’t help to think that the country is still widely underdeveloped. The Vietnam War which lasted almost 3 decades would most certainly devastated the country for long. Add this to the absence and/or misleading media coverage will affirms that notion. So, when I planned the trip today I would expect a full 12 days of murderously torturing experience. I barely survived a 7-hour bus ride from Phnom Penh to Siam Reap. And that was freaking pain in the butt. And we’re talking days here !
But after few hours of digging, it doesn’t seems that bad. Looks like a perfect blend of traditional and modern living. And the view – breathtaking.
I got to go out this year. Yeah, i’ll fuck up for sure. But the journey, like others, will be such a great, humbling experience. And I am a complete bummer - singing the ‘Negaraku’ on my every flight home. It’s a complete orgasm to be back to comfort.
I am just guilty having fun and being guilefully irresponsible. I need a touque !
